This is an absolutely wonderful sounding instrument that excels at fingerstyle playing while also providing great projection and depth when strummed and flatpicked. The classic Sitka and Mahogany combination provides a clear, woody, dry and airy tone that is very balanced and smooth thanks to the masterful voicing. Sitka is very lush and has a warm, rich low end. It is ideal for flatpickers who don't require the stiffness of Adirondack, offering more volume and responsiveness from a lighter touch. Mahogany provides for more sustain, slower attack, as you would expect from a heavier top. Mahogany tops make for a friendly, sweet guitar that does not amplify mistakes. The Mahogany back and sides are perfect for players who find rosewood too boomy. Lead players will appreciate the enhanced note definition and clarity, especially through the midrange frequencies. This Collings C10 has outstanding 35 style appointments made to it. These include a shorter scale length of 24 7/8", forward shifted X bracing, an abbreviated Tongue Brace, Ivoroid Rosette, top and back binding, Tiger Stripe pickgaurd, African Rosewood Bridge and Fingerboard, and Pre-war non-scalloped Adirondack bracing with 2 tone bars. This instrument features a 24 7/8" scale, lessening overall string tension for ease of fretting with your left hand while providing a quick response to light attack with your right hand. The sound is compressed significantly and the short scale makes me feel like a real guitar player. It’s really amazing what a fraction of an inch can do, giving you easier reach and less tension.
