Here is a vintage (serial number 597482) Holton H-379 Double French Horn. This is a solid nickel silver Kruspe wrap symphonic double horn. It is in very good condition, and plays very well. The valves move well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are a few small dings and pings, and some isolated scratching and pitting throughout the horn. There is also a brazed repair on the bell near the main bell brace. The engraving on the bell reads "Holton Elkhorn Wis." and the leadpipe reads "H 379". The imperfections are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a somewhat worn hardshell case, and a mouthpiece in good condition.How the horn plays: Full, warm sound. The tone is dark and smooth. The horn is free-blowing and fairly open. The Bb side timbre is a tiny bit brighter than the F side. The horn has a decent dynamic range. The low and high registers speak fairly well.
