Description
Brand: Fender Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
Body Color: Gold

I am offering an awesome and rare Fender Pre CBS Stratocaster, custom ordered in 1963 with two piece maple cap neck, gold hardware and custom color finish. All the parts are original to the guitar. You can figure parts alone are worth more than my listing price.
What is not original is it is refinished - the color is now gold bronze powder nitrocellulose, the neck is refinished and retains the original logo, re fretted perfectly and professionally with the original size frets. The trem arm is not original.
The hardware is original gold plated fender from 1957 dated by neck plate serial #, single line tuners, patent pend bridge saddles, Bridge, input jack cup, neck screws, strap buttons and string tree. Leo as you know would not plate one set of hardware separately for each guitar but would do batches to save production time and cost, this gold plated hardware would be found on the ‘57 –58 Mary Kay models. Original pickguard & gold screws, knobs, pots, switch, pickups, pickup covers, springs and tremolo block.
The two piece maple cap neck were done in batches, this neck is stamped for mid year 1962, again these necks were done in batches for custom order Stratocasters as an alternative to the rosewood fret board between ‘60 to ‘65. I have and article in Vintage Guitar showing photograph and article with a ‘64 Stratocaster with maple cap neck.
The body is dated in pencil in trem cavity 5/63 and all three pots show matching date codes for ‘63 along with their original black bobbin staggered pole pickups with alnico chamfered magnets. Notice that all the screws though worn show original gold plating even the bottoms of pickup screws on bottoms.
The guitar does show normal wear, a ding on side of fret board at 4th fret on high E, it does not affect the playing. There is checking the finish is over 20 years old, the gold hardware show wear. the guitar does sound and play exceptionally well as you will find on pre CBS strats from 60 – 65. It has a very clear bell chime as the signature tone of fender and has lots of resonance.
It weighs 7.4 lbs and comes with original brown case with stitched leather ends. The high E tuner is clipped on plate.Amp is not included.Shipping is $195.00 for lower 48 states continental USA by carrier of my choice, no PO or Apo boxes.
