Vintage 1970s Leo Fender Music Man 212 Sixty Five Amp, Serviced, All Original
Estimated price for orientation: 799 $
Category: Guitar Amplifiers
Class:
Description Brand: Music Man (Leo Fender) Model: 212 Sixty-Five Exact Year: Mid 1970s Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
Purchased this beautiful, rock solid combo guitar amplifier from Sam Ash in New York in the 70's and really enjoyed playing it for several years with my local band (see pictures - fyi, the hat & feathers are not part of the deal). Since then there has been too little time to play; my skill and callouses are mostly gone but the amp has been well-preserved.Music Man amps are well-known for great tone, reliability, and their use across musical genres, including by the likes of Eric Clapton, Chet Atkins, Mark Knopfler, Waddy Wachtel, Johnny Winter, Robbie Robertson, Jeff Beck, Albert Lee, Joe Strummer, Joe Perry, Merle Travis and Alabama. This amp is from the first line of innovative, high quality amps produced by Leo Fender and other former Fender employees and was designed to continue their quest for better cleans, clarity and headroom and improve on the Fender Twin Reverb.(Fender sold his namesake firm to the conglomerate CBS in 1965 and had to wait ten years to compete with them in the marketplace. Many feel the Fender product began to decline after the sale.)It has a similar look and controls layout to earlier (and more pricey) 1960s blackface Fender Twin Reverbs but utilizes a high end hybrid design that's stood the test of time, with a tube output stage and a solid state pre-amp stage for a cleaner, more reliable signal chain. It has two 12" Alnico magnet speakers and two channels, with a master volume switch on one allowing for nice gain at low and high volumes as well as excellent onboard reverb and tremolo effects (foot switch included), among many other features. It also has a nice half power switch, which, when utilized, employs all tubes by dropping the plate voltage (instead of dropping tubes like some cheap competitor models). This is a pre-1977 model, so it has a 12AX7 pre-amp tube which allows for extra distortion in the phase inverter stage and a warmer tone than later Music Man solid state versions (the phase inverter stage is between the solid state pre-amp and tube output stages).Recently professionally serviced for U.S. $250 (see pictures) - so this amplifier is gig-ready and it's tone, reliability and carrying cost should be considerably better than similar vintage equipment not recently or properly serviced.A comparable new amplifier would cost a few thousand U.S. dollars, just like a vintage blackface Fender Twin Reverb.I will pack this well myself, including double boxing and removing and packing the power tubes.Local pickup may also be possible, please shoot me an email through the e bay system.
