Vintage 1960s Ekco / Grampian Ensa Festival Guitar Valve Amp, Amplifier / Combo
Estimated price for orientation: 500 $
Category: Guitar Amplifiers
Class:
Description Brand: Ecko Amplifier Type: Combo Type: Electric Country/Region of Manufacture: United Kingdom MPN: Does Not Apply EAN: Does not apply
A vintage British made late-1950s / early-1960s Ekco guitar valve ‘combo’ amplifier in ‘fair-to-good’ physical condition, bearing in mind its age. The item is badged 'Ekco' who made valve radios, but it would appear this item is a re-badged Grampian 'Ensa Festival' combo of which there is a bit of information on the internet. It is in its original colours which would have been fairly normal for the period before the American influence determined that such items should be ‘black'. We think this is quite a unique item, and you will probably never see anything like it ever again. It has two microphone inputs, and one guitar input, as well as two British made elliptical speakers*.Although we have plugged this item in to undertake simple checks. The amplifier works on all three inputs (some switch cleaner may be required on the potentiometers). Because of the age, there is no way that we can guarantee the working condition of any internal component in the long term. As this is over 50 years old, and from a time when electrical safety was not as strict as it is now, we strongly recommend that this item is checked for electrical safety before use - it is strongly recommended that this item is used in conjunction with a residual current circuit breaker (RCD) for safety. We have done NO testing on this item other than to briefly plug it in in order to see that the valves light up (all six valves did light up) and that we get an output from each of the three inputs (we played an iPod through it and we received an amplified output from the speaker). However, we do not guarantee that all of the components in this vintage item will continue to operate and they, and/or other components, may fail at any point. The valves in the item are all Mullard - 2x UY85, 2x UY84, 1x UCC85, and 1x UF86 (i.e., all cheap to replace in any case). We assume that this is not a high power amplifier/combo, but would be suited to somebody practising in a studio or similar. One of the clips that holds the two parts together is damaged, but the remaining clip does hold it together fine for transportation. We note that a lead/plug for one of the speakers is missing - the buyer will need to make up a connection to the second speaker.* One of the speakers has some physical damage to the cone. There is only one speaker cable. The buyer will need to make up another cable for the second speaker. We will ship to some EU countries, but please note that some remote areas may not be covered by the shipping charge quoted. Specifically, some areas of France or Spain may cost more to ship to. We will not ship to Spanish Islands.
