THE MULLIGAN GUARDby Harrigan & HartNoted as the 1st musical comedy, The Mulligan Guards poked fun at the local "Guard" units of Manhattan of the time. Although the units would dress and drill and march in parades, it was more for show and having drinking companions. Harrigan & Harts interpretation of the Irish guard in this work was extremely popular and began a succession of other "Mulligan" stage hits for them. The lithograph cover of this work depicts them in their funny uniforms. The song itself can be found on youtube.
