Here is a classic french ANTOINE COURTOIS PARIS breveté model flugelhorn. This horn is silverplated and in very good condition for its age. Serial number is 2019, so it was manufactured probably in the 30ies  (hard to determine, there are no serial number records available. The factory in 8 Rue De Marais, Paris was officially only maintained until the 30ies, later models have Rue de Nancy on the bell). ANTOINE COURTOIS is among France's oldest and biggest brass instrument brands (their history goes back to 1850).This vintage brevete model was the top of the professional Courtois line from the 20ies to the 70ies of the last century - the choice of many famous players. Maynard Ferguson used to play a breveté model before he was endorsed by Holton in the 70ies. On the valve block, there is the serial number 2019, A.COURTOIS PARIS and the valves are numbered .Valve Bore size is .410 of an inch (10.5mm), the bell diameter is 6.1 inches (155mm).On the bell, there are many international prizes imprinted from Chicago 1893 until Geneva 1927. There is also an inscription from the original donators (see close up pics). The valves are smooth and fast with sufficient compression (the slides pop when pulled out), they show some discolouring on the surface from the age, being made of nickle silver. All slides and screws are free, new felts and corks were added.  The brass alloy of this vintage horn is still of superior quality without evidence of corrosion or red hot. There is one small patch and two minor dings on the main tubing after the valve block. Other than that, it looks fantastic for a horn of that vintage. The horn has 100% original silverplating. All parts seem to be original. The mouthpiece is an original ANTOINE COURTOIS PARIS Nr. 3 which a french taper which fits well, but has wear on the surface. The original case has much wear, but is fully functional. The horn comes back from a professional chem clean and inspection, it is very clean and was obviously played little and well maintained during all this time. This rare vintage flugelhorn was originally sold in Switzerland. It's a collectors item, but is still fully playable - hard to find in this condition. That's why vintage french flugelhorns such as Couesnon, Selmer or Courtois are still highly sought after by professional band or orchestra players.I offer this rare vintage horn from Switzerland to worldwide, priority airmail shipping to the States is $73, please ask for other international destinations. There is no reserve and a low starting bid, so have fun bidding.
