Hi there, Let me first say, SORRY to those few who had placed a bid already, but it is MORE IMPORTANT to me to get a listing correct. I bought this bass from a local chicago suburban music shop nearly 40 years ago, in this exact condition. I have not modified it from that condition in any way. The sticker on the inside has fallen out but the oval where the sticker was is there!! That said, it is confirmed a genuine Gibson EB2 (best guess on the year by everyone is '68 or '69) that has been modded and upgraded in a few ways. These are all PLAYER MODS, Who knew back then that these would be so popular today. 1. The headstock was painted over (hiding the serial number) after an attempt at making it into an 8-string ala Cheap Trick. So there are fills, but, from more than 5ft or in stage lighting they are invisible. I actually had to point them out to the historians I went to. The headstock itself was not cracked. It looks like it was never fully converted. 2. The bridge was changed from the solid bar-style wrap around to the adjustable saddle style, without the metal piece underneath (screw holes are still there and the screws are in the case). Apparently a common mod to a better bridge. The inductor coil space is still there. Keeps the intonation perfect and is fully adjustable. 3. A second (dimarzio hum bucking bass pickup) was added and wired into the push-button switch. The switch now changes pickups and does not activate the inductor coil. This pickup mod was common to offset the deep bass of the neck pickup. The tone of the neck pickup is deep and rich while the bridge (white) pickup is bright and guitar-like. Run through a fuzz or an overdriven Bassman it sounds totally 60s. If I were to keep and play it I would add a toggle or blending pot of some sort. I just sat and played this beauty for about 3 hours and thought about keeping it, but I only play 5-string fretless now. I am not going to get into the cosmetic details as I have provided 12 pictures for that. All pots and the switch are clean, operate normally and free of static. The action is to die for - less than 1/16" at the nut and less than 1/8" at the 12th fret. NO FRET BUZZZ neck is straight as an arrow and the original frets are in EXCELLENT shape. All the original mother of pearl dots are in place and the rosewood is the same that was used by Gibson back in the 60s. Here are a few specs: NECK WIDTH AT THE NUT IS ONLY 1-1/2"!!!! Neck width at the body is only 2-1/8" String spacing at the nut is 3/8" and 5/8" at the body 21" NECK and 31-1/4 from the nut to the end ball. So this would be considered a short scale bass. WEIGHT is 9lbs 2.6OZ Truss rod is free and works. The case has a bit of a vintage wood smell as it has been closed for about 10 years now. Stored in my house - yes, detuned and layed flat in the closet like a true closet-classic. I will be leaving it open and vacuuming out the inside. Oh ya, the original case is in great shape too. Has a few large stickers from my teen years and some wear on the to edge. But, all latches, hinges and handle work perfect. Fur inside is still, well, furry. I just want this to go to someone who will use it and appreciate it as I have but I am not willing to just give it away. Considering that ones in much worse shape than this are still going for $2,000 My asking price is pretty cheap. I will entertain offers but am pretty firm on the price knowing what I know now. I already have a standing offer from a guitar shop for $1200 Shipping is $38.50 (HEAVY and BIG) anywhere in the 48 states, double to Alaska or Hawaii.
