The Two-Rock EXO 15 is a dual 6V6, tube rectified, class AB amp, pushing 15 Watts of Two-Rock cleans and classic dirt. TMB, Gain and Master controls the usual suspects, while a Contour control shapes global frequencies for quick EQ changes. The EXO loves pedals, has a passive loop and 4, 8, and 16 OHM jacks. Though my favorite speaker with the EXO is the Tone Tubby AlNiCo Red, The EXO plays nice with WGS, Avatar, Scumback and Celestion...it likes most speakers. Features: Treble, Mid and Bass tone stack
Passive Effects loop - Pre Amp In/Power Amp Out
Contour Control
4, 8, and 16 OHM Speaker Outputs
Lit controls on the front panel
Size: L-12" x W- 8" x H- 7"
Weight: 13.5 LBS
Tubes: 2 x 6V6, 1 x 5AR4 Rectifier Tube, 2 x 12AX7AC Cable IncludedWhile this amp sounds terrific at bedroom levels — even a low master setting still holds onto the tone — at gigs it is louder than you would expect from a 15 watt head. With a Kingsley Minstrel in front, my usual master setting was between 3.5 to 4. At lower Gain + higher Master settings, there is a great deal of headroom for a 15 watt amp = big fat cleans. The tone wraps around you and the feel of the amp is very responsive to playing dynamics. Crank the gain up for a stellar blues and/or rock tone. The contour control is an active wide band sweep. In the 12 o’clock position, the amps’ frequency response is flat. Counterclockwise rotation reduces high end response and increases low frequencies. Clockwise rotation decreases low end and increases the high frequency response. This control is very useful for maintaining preamp tone control settings, while allowing a global adjustment to compensate for differences in room acoustics, speaker cabinets, or bright to dark guitars (Humbucker to Single Coil, for example). Tubes in the EXO: V1 - JJ 12AX7 short plate,
PI - JJ (Tesla Label) 12AX7 long plate,
Sovtek 5AR4
RCA 6V6GTA matched pair, black plates, smoked glass The RCAs bias is set close to 70% dissipation, at 20 and 23 mA. All you need is a multimeter and a screwdriver to set the bias. I tried JJ 6V6, Electro Harmonix 6V6, Tung Sol re-issue 6V6, Magnavox 6V6, and Sylvania 6V6 pairs. All sounded good, and the RCAs sound was thick, sweet and big - clean or driven. For me, the trick to working with the EXO is to keep the TMB eq as high as possible - giving more bark, punch and gain to the amp. I often ran the TMB controls full out. Finally, keeping the contour as high as possible, especially with a Tone Tubby, really added the final touch...a never harsh presence and zing to the sound.
