Vintage Ludwig Classic Blue Oyster Drum Kit - 1960's - 22/13/16Our longtime customer, Old Jim, kept the dance-floors busy as a drummer on board cruise ships in the last 60's and early 70's. Travelling between Liverpool and the United States, he was playing everything from the Argentine tango to the waltz, and he has many a tale to tell!Being a typical Scouser and reluctant to splash the cash, Jim put this kit together on separate trips to the States, where he would visit Ace Music in Miami. Knowing that we are always on the lookout for vintage Ludwig drums and kits, he's finally decided to let this kit go, and we are delighted to offer it for sale here. The kit is in great shape overall. The blue oyster wrap has faded to a sea green colour, no doubt due to those trips across the Atlantic with Jim, and there's just a couple of issues to mention. So here's what's on offer:22" x 12" Bass Drum: Serial Number 500972 - Yup, 12" depth, this is a Ludwig "New Yorker" bass drum, rarely seen these days and looking good. Introduced to help city drummers get their kit more easily in and out of their cars, Jim chose this depth bass drum to make life easier in his small cabin on board ship. In great condition overall, the batter bearing edge is a very slightly out of round but tunes up no problem. The drum has no extra holes, comes with its original rail mount and spurs and sounds warm and gorgeous. The bass drum hoops have been repainted, and the inlay on the batter hoop has been pieced together and isn't the original blue oyster. The drum is date stamped Feb 9th 1967.13" x 9" Rack Tom: Serial Number 135136 - This drum is in great shape, with original baseball bat dampener in full working order, original tom holder receiver box, a few scuffs to the wrap, a little corrosion and pitting to the chrome, but sounding superb. Date stamped July 29th 196516" x 16" Floor Tom: Serial Number 69348 Some pitting to the chrome here and there. Original baseball bat dampener is present and works perfectly but has a little oxidation. Wrap has faded significantly and is showing its age, but is all intact and secure, with a few scuffs.We love this kit, its a real touch of class with bags of character and charm.
