Description Product Description When you think of an acoustic guitar, the very first shape that comes to mind is most likely the Dreadnought. Even those who don't play associate acoustic guitars with this body shape (even if they don't know the name Dreadnought ). The year 2016 marks a very special milestone in acoustic guitar history: the 100th Anniversary of the Dreadnought guitar. In 1916, C.F. Martin Co. designed and built the very first Dreadnought acoustic guitars, but they were marketed under the Oliver Ditson brand in New York and Boston exclusively. In the early '30s, Ditson went out of business and Martin decided to incorporate this powerful body shape that they created into their own lineup. This led to the introduction of the D-1 and D-2 Dreadnought acoustics, which shortly after became Martin's legendary D-18 and D-28--two iconic models that remain the cornerstone of Martin's Standard Series lineup. Today, the Dreadnought still stands as the most popular and widely recognized acoustic guitar design in the world.Martin Guitars celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Dreadnought with the introduction of the Limited Edition D-222 100th Anniversary model. Limited to a small run of only 100 instruments, the D-222 100th Anniversary boasts a 12-fret Dreadnought body crafted with genuine mahogany back sides and a Sitka spruce top with Martin's exclusive Vintage Tone System (VTS). The mahogany back/sides, VTS Sitka spruce top, and the 12-fret construction gives the D-222 its warm, broken-in voice that you'd typically only expect from an actual vintage Martin. The select hardwood neck is carved into an old-school modified V profile to give this guitar a classic feel while the ebony 'board has undergone a precise PLEK setup to offer outstanding playability. Enhancing the classic vibe of the D-222, the square taper slotted headstock boasts a gorgeous East Indian rosewood headplate, a stamped Oliver Ditson Co. logo on the back, a hand-shape
