A nice pair of Boosey & Hawkes Emperor clarinets with the larger 0.6" bore which were refurbished by ourselves about twelve months ago and have been on loan to a professional player who has now returned them to us. We have given them a thorough checkover and regulation and they are once again available for sale.The B&H Emperor was a top range intermediate model with the larger bore of 0.60” (15.2mm), which competed directly with the Buffet E13 in terms of quality. Some sources maintain that the Emperor model became, after the acquisition of Buffet Crampon in 1981, the Buffet E13 “International”. It has been said that “The three core characteristics are: a basic bore dimension of around 0.6 of an inch (15.24 mm), a cylindrically bored mouthpiece of the same dimensions and the unique bell developed by Boosey & Co. towards the end of the 19th century. They were unique instruments, on which some of the world's most illustrious clarinettists have given live performances and made recordings which rank amongst the finest ever, on any model of clarinet.”The Bb is serial number 457798, the A has serial number 455740 which dates them both to 1978. Both have slight scuffs to the bell rim but in general the wood condition is very, very good. The condition of both instruments is excellent, as usual the A has seen less use than the Bb and the condition is nearly mint. Each instrument has two barrels for tuning purposes of 2.50” (63.6mm) and 2.57” (65.3mm) length.There are two mouthpieces: one is an original B&H 926 No2, of exactly the right size for these clarinets. The other is a new B&H 593 which has the same dimensions as the 926 so matches the larger bore of these Emperors.There are no cracks or damage to the wood. All pads, replaced in 2016, are also in perfect condition as you would expect. The silver plated keywork is pristine throughout. The supplied original case is in very good condition.The instruments have been refurbished by Studio 7 Music Repairs in Bristol, England and are offered with our usual warranty.
