Please Note: Payment is expected within 3 days of auction end. Thanks!Up for sale is this really nice modified Gibson Style 250 Mastertone banjo, I'm guessing from the early 1960s. It sounds exactly like a well-set-up raised head Bowtie should: It's got power and depth in spades, with a beautiful pop, and clear full tone. Really blossoms up the neck, too!
As far as I can tell, most everything is early '60s Gibson Bowtie, the only things non-original are the neck, and possibly the rim. The rim has definitely been refinished to a flat black, and is a full-thickness multi-ply, but it really sounds great! The tone ring is the original 4-hole archtop. The flange is correct and I've shown the Doehler mark in one of the pics. Tension hook nuts are correct, as well as the armest and original 5-string tension hoop. Not sure about the tailpiece or co-rods. All hardware is chrome-plated and in excellent condition, except for the hooks, which show considerable corrosion, which is pretty typical for Bowties.
The neck is a fine mah0gany "Wreath" pattern neck with a beautiful r0sewood fingerboard and 2-way truss rod. It is very well-made and plays just great. There is a very thin shim at the heel.
THIS BANJO COMES WITH 2 RESONATORS! One is the original Style 250 resonator shown, but it is pretty beat-up, with deep buckle rash in one area, and the other is a resonator in excellent condition, that is either newer or has been refinished.
Banjo comes with the (original?) case pictured. The case is in excellent working condition, but is frayed around some of the top edges as shown. There is no serial number anywhere on this banjo. Please email me with any questions. Thanks for looking!Returns not accepted unless buyer finds that item is not as I described it in my listing. Please email me with any questions. Thanks.
