FE Olds S23 Bass TromboneDual Dependent ValvesPlays in Bb, F and E10 Inch Yellow Brass BellDual Bore- .547 and .565?Clean and Straight - Dents have been removedGood Slide ActionSerial number 704,XXX- 1970?This is a bass trombone that was in need of someone like me to take care of it. When it arrived, a spring was broken on one valve, it had dents, Tuning in the slide was stuck and the case was ugly.My superb technician  removed dents, freed the tuning in slide and gave the slide a tuneup. What we have now is a bass trombone that functions perfectly and is pretty good looking with quite a bit of lacquer loss and scratches. This is a bass trombone that would make a good value priced bass trombone or a backup horn or one to take to sporting events when you don't want to take your $5000 horn. The dual bore and the 10 inch bell combine to make it a nice easy blow. Pedals pop very easily and the overall sound is warm and dark although when you push the air you can find edge if you are looking for it. The .547 side of the slide makes for air being used efficiently and lets you play easily into the tenor range. The two valves are operated by side by side triggers in a dependent format. E valve only works when the F is already engaged. Think of the F as adding Six positions and the E adding an additional one position. Valves work smoothly. The tuning in slide now works perfectly and the handslide is quite good although there is some plating wear on the inner tubes- I would call it about an 8.5 on a 10 scale. Comes with an Olds 23 mouthpiece which works fine - You probably will want to audition several pieces to find you own best fit. Also the original case in solid shape after some repairs and painting on my end. It will transport and protect the trombone well.I see a very nice condition S23 sold not too long ago for $2300 and another is listed on ebay right now for $2500. This one is not as pretty as those two but I will bet you it plays as well. I am going to start the price low and see where it ends up.I will pack well and ship to the lower 48 states for $65- it is heavy- Elsewhere for actual cost by US Postal service. Europe and Japan should expect to pay about $130 for shipping
No Reserve or Buy It Now on this one. Auction will set the price and high bidder wins it!!
