I'm having a huge clearout of my garage as I have a large job to start very soon. I'm listing all the stuff I either won't ever get around to or simply don't want/need anymore. Truth be told, I really don't want to sell this as I was going to keep it for my personal collection, but due to my time constraints (it's really distracting having it there staring at me) and needing the space in the workshop I have to let it go..So, I bought this earlier last year in a bad state, 'Apparently' it had been in a flood and hadn't worked since the 90s, I was told that several techs had looked at it over the years and for either the cost or involved needing to repair it, it never got done. I was told by the previous owner that he bought it from Roland cheap in this condition, so It's my belief that this was a machine put together out of dead parts, but I can't attest to that. The reason I say that is that the two module controllers are different pcb revisions.When it arrived with me it was truly dead. It's now not too far away from being up and running again. Not one oscillator worked at all, I now have all 16 running, along with all the filters, due to almost completely rebuilding all the voice cards. It's had a full recap, I stripped and rebuilt all the slide pots, it will need 2 replacements due to the wipers being non existant. I've also rebuilt one of the module controllers which seems to now be working good too. The final issue I was trying to get sorted was the envelopes, It seemed as though many of them were dead, bear in mind that the JP8 has 16 Env Gen ICs It seems to me that about 10 of these are dead. I have replaced MOST (perhaps 80%) of the Logic ICs in the whole synth and as I have done that I have placed everything in sockets, including all work done to the voice boards so any future repairs will be a lot easier to carry out. On each voice board, the CA3046s were dead, as were most all of the 4558 opamps.
Because I got tired of fixing one fault only to uncover another I just decided that it would be easier (and more fun) to do complete rebuilds on all the voice cards so other than the ones (that I think) need ENV GEN ICs these are all ok and good to go. One of the module controllers needs work, there was no 13v output coming from it. Admittedly I didn't get as far investigating further on this board as I had rebuilt the other and was using it to do all my testing. I didn't get as far as to really figure out what the issue is with the envelopes, if i did, I probably wouldn't be selling it, but I was thinking about getting the VCADSR chips that Tom Wiltshire has done, and working them onto a small board and using them in place of the Roland IR3R01 chips as they are very cost effective but I didn't prove either way that there is actually anything wrong with the existing chips, although I suspect there is. All of the CV seems to be good on the module controller. panel control data cv is getting to the voice cards, pitch, filter cross mod etc..I realise it's a large purchase, so I don't mind skyping with potential buyers to demo the state the machine is currently in.Cosmetically, She's in fantastic condition, all knobs etc are there and there really isn't any notable scratches and has one very small dent in the top right of the panel (could probably gently tap out)  the control panel fascia is in really fantastic shape.
