1989 Gibson Les Paul Standard '59' re-issue aka pre-historic re-issue (92 Pickups) 99p Start auction - NO RESERVE!!!Rare chance to win this sought after and beautifully crafted Gibson 59 reissueI've owned this wonderful Les Paul Standard from new. I got it direct from Gibson in Tin Pan Alley Denmark St in 1992This was back in the day when Gibson helped new artists to find the right guitar and lent them out for studio work and videos etcI fell in love with this guitar the moment I played it, the neck felt great and I really liked the unique flame top. After playing it for a few months I wasn't completely convinced about the sound of the stock 1989 pick-ups so Gibson replaced them with their latest at the time (1992) 59 vintage reissue pickups. They felt they'd really nailed the vintage 59 sound with these pickups, and raved about them. They sounded incredible and I never looked back. I played this a lot from 92 to 96 since then as my music changed so did the guitars, as she's seen much action since then it's time for her to find a new home.I once had a 'Les Paul off' with a mate who had an awesome collection of 5 or 6 Les Pauls including a vintage Gold Top, and some 90s 59 reissues - this guitar was a little heavier than the others (round about 4 kilos) but we both agreed mine sounded the best! This guitar has seen some action, done a few tours, a few albums, been here and there, so shows some signs of use ; ) Without doubt the most trouble free guitar I've ever owed. Never had any issues and no accidents - never been to a Luthier - never needed one. The neck is straight and it plays beautifully. There's some fret wear but they have plenty of life left in them. You don't feel any wear when you're playing playing, no fret buzzThe ONLY changes apart from the infinitely better pickups (recommended and fitted by Gibson) where some strap lock buttons and I replaced the plastic jack plate with a gold metal one. This is an authentic guitar The case is the one it came with, many years ago the handle came off so I attached a leather belt instead. It does the jobCan't really say much else, I don't need to bang on about how much these guitars are coveted and how they rarely come up for auction etc...It's hard to sell a guitar, especially one of the very good ones - so I'm hoping she finds a good home.I'm happy to ship worldwide, but I would prefer international buyers organize shipping themselves. Postage from Portugal is reliable and the guitar will be in it's case then packed in a box for shippingPostage to European Union will be £65 if it's any less I'll re-fund the difference.Worldwide £85 (estimate) after the auction ends I'll work with the buyer to find the best shipping options depending on their locationThis is a 99p Start auction - NO RESERVE!!!Happy Bidding and GOOD LUCK!!!

The term prehistoric refers to those reissues made by Gibson USA before the Gibson Custom Shop was formed and officially began using the term reissue and with R9 designation. Many look at the 1989 year as one of the more popular years of the late '80's reissue because not only was it the 30th anniversary of the LP,  but there serial numbers share the exact same number scheme as the original 1959.  For the collector it's a nice piece of history being a pre-Custom Shop piece, 30 year reissue and matching serial scheme and for the everyday player who wants a nice reissue without the 2016 prices--this is a wonderful players guitar.
