Mayones is constantly building impeccable instruments, but you know they're only bringing the best of the best to the illustrious NAMM Exhibition show. When we saw this on display, we were immediately drawn to it. Get it in your hands, plug it in, and let the fun begin. For as amazingly cool as this guitar looks, it plays and sounds even better! The Regius line provides an excellent balance between classic design and modern tone. The neck feels absolutely amazing and plays lightning fast. The idea behind this is to still suit to Mayones' tradition of aggressive tone and shredder guitars, while keeping one foot in the more traditional and vintage tonal spectrum. The Duncan JB and Jazz pickups clean up very nicely and aren't quite as in-your-face as what you'll find in some of Mayones' other offerings (that's not to say they are polite either... this guitar wants to be shredded on, no doubt about it). The guitar stays defined even when heavily saturated with distortion but can also cop a mellower and more vintage vibe too with a few minor control tweaks for a cleaner sound... Or go ahead and wake the angry bear for a vicious tone that is in-your-face and slices through any mix while maintaining clarity and articulation at any volume and with any amount of gain. The low-B string is tight, powerful, and never muddy or mushy sounding. The neck makes this super comfortable even if you're trying a 7-string for your first time. While this beauty is still going to be a head-turner - I mean, just look at it! It's gorgeous! - the angles on the body and the flame maple archtop will feel more familiar to players accustomed to more traditional axes of old. While this axe is very versatile and doesn't require you to play it at breakneck speeds with loads of distortion, it certainly still wants you to do that and will facilitate you in doing that, which is the coolest part. The guitar's tone has a big bass response and snappy treble with present hi-mids to handle any amount of distortion, fuzz, or overdrive. The guitar plays so well that licks which may have been beyond your capabilities in the past, may very well find themselves jumping right out of this bad boy. The antique wood treatment on this gives it a super unique and stunningly beautiful aesthetic too. You could spend as much time admiring the back of the guitar as the front!
