This is a custom hand built classical guitar made by Vincent "Jimmy" DiSerio.It was built for session and live guitarist Tommy Lucas in December 1969.Tommy requested a single cutaway classical which DiSerio pioneered and built in his Macaldo Guitars shop.Some History:DiSerio worked alongside John D'Angelico from 1935-1959 building New Yorkers & Excels.He went out on his own to build custom guitars including modified Gibson arch tops with his own 8-string necks.Tommy Lucas was a session and live artist from the 1940's until 1994.He played with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, and countless other singers.He was the guitarist in the Ed Sullivan Show Orchestra from the early 1960's until the shows end in 1972.Guitar Provinance:The guitar was used by Tommy at a private party for Elizabeth Taylor in 1974.The guitar comes with a photo of Tommy playing at her NYC apartment and signed/dated by him.The guitar was used by Tommy at the New York Metropolitan Opera when he performed in the pit orchestra for the play Othello.The guitar comes with Tommy's original sheet music from the performances.Construction:Fan bracing & traditional bracing.Multicolor wood 5-ply binding on the front, back, and headstock.Multicolor wood 4-ply binding on the sides. Highly detailed sound-hole rosette.Mother of Pearl tuning buttons on two gold plated 3 in a row tuning machines. Two Mother of Pearl block fret markers (15th. & 17th.) with "for Tommy Lucas" and " by Jim DiSerio" hand engraved.Macaldo Guitars label inside the sound hole signed & dated by Jimmy DiSerio for Tommy Lucas December 1969.Materials used:Neck: MahoganyTop: Sitka SpruceSides: Brazilian RosewoodBack: Brazilian RosewoodFretboard: EbonySide Markers: MOPFret Markers: (2) MOP block Inlay Hand Engraved Signatures.Tuners: Ornate Gold Plated w/MOP buttonsBridge: Brazilian RosewoodStrings:NOS D'Angelico classical guitar strings (circa 1950's) on the guitar.Two extra sets of Josima Artist Original NylonPlaying Condition:The guitar is in excellent playing condition with little fret wear.Structural & Cosmetic Condition:There a few locations where the clearcoat is chipped (see photos).There are several locations on the spruce top that have finish cracks ( see photos).There are two locations on the spruce top that have cracks in the wood but with No buzz when fretting notes or strumming chords.There is one location on the back with a finish crack bordering on structural but with No buzz.The finish is good for its age but please examine the photos to determine based on your own standards.Shipping:Shipping is to the Continental USA Only .
