END USER REVIEWS NEW ADK CUSTOM TT-47Au VALVE MICEnd User Review of ADK Custom Gear - By Michael HodeckerThe ADK Custom TT-47Au Valve Mic and and ADK Custom AP-1 Pre-Amp did get here yesterday when I did get to try it out, it blew me away. After letting the tube warm up for a bit, I tried it on my guitar, my own voice... wow. I recorded acoustic guitar alot of different ways, in several different places. Having so many patterns made it easy to get a whole plethora of tones. I've worked with tracks from the Charter Oak Tube Mic and the Lauten Oceanus, and it's clear that the Custom Shop 47 is in a different league altogether. If I were to describe the sound, it would be- warm, present, complimentary (rather than flattering), smooth, big, classy... and very many other things. This is the about the best mic that I have ever heard dry! Mixing with it is a joy. This microphone should get a lot of use... whether I send it in for the J-mod or not, I'm quite happy for this to be the main vocal mic in my studio. The more exaggerated proximity effect in cardioid was perfect for giving a dull voice more character, and the "in-betweens" gave a whole bunch of options I wasn't expecting... it was almost like having 7 different mics to choose from. This mic is just fantastic on vocals. Capturing audio is a complicated art that so many people have tried (and are still trying) to perfect, but you guys seem to understand something that only a handful of companies ever have... and considering your pricing, I can't think of another company that really compares. I'm looking forward to putting the ADK Custom TT-47 through some more of its paces. The ADK AP-1 does what it's supposed to, and way better than the 2-610 I've recorded on before. It really seems to bring out the color of the microphone, rather than impose its own. I'm excited to see the possibilities of swapping out transformers as well. Thank you both so much! I hope to meet you guys soon!by the way, "ADK Custom Shop microphones are what Ray Charles chose to use over anything else - and it is well documented that Ray had golden ears!
