Travel back in time with this vintage five-string banjo. Made by Gibson at its old Kalamazoo, Michigan factory, from 1968 (#924068, which is stamped along the length of the back of the peghead), it's a Gibson RB-100. Except for the worn head, it is in very nice condition. Fiddle-shaped peghead. One-piece flange. Bound resonator. Five Star Planet tuners. Spikes at the fifth, seventh and ninth frets. Neck is in great shape and is appropriately straight. Some fret wear for first five frets, but plenty of fret life left. Fingerboard is in great shape. 12th fret action is about 2/32". Dual coordinator rods. With the bound mah0gany resonator and one-piece flange, I would reasonably guess that this is a transitional banjo, as some of the RB-100 specifications changed in 1968-1969. I got it from the second owner, who had it since about 1972. She kept very good care of her instruments, and this is no exception. She told me she never let anyone play it who was wearing jewelry or a belt buckle. The fine condition of the resonator reflects that second rule. There does appear a small capo gouge on the back of the neck behind the second fret. It comes in what-I-think-is the original hard case (but the case has no Gibson logo) with the key! Also comes with the banjo wrench, two metal Ernie Ball fingerpicks, one Dunlop #8 thumb pick and an elastic banjo capo. It is simply a classic old American banjo in great shape.                  Questions?
