This is a vintage (serial number 391524) King model 1159 Double French Horn. This instrument is in good playing condition and plays well. The valves move well and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the instrument, there are a few dings and pings, light scratching as well as light etching and pitting throughout the instrument. This light etching makes the engraving very difficult to read. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This horn is one of the more desirable horns made in the Cleveland factory. The engraving on the bell should read "KING/ MADE BY/ THE H.N. WHITE CO/ CLEVELAND/ OHIO", but as I said it is very difficult to make out, and only the part that reads “KING/ MADE BY/ THE H.N. WHITE CO.” can really be deciphered. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore, fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a worn hardshell case and a mouthpiece in good condition.
How the horn plays:  Big, bright sound. The low and high registers speak fairly well. The Bb side timbre is a bit brighter than the F side. The horn is best suited to playing staccato, fortissimo, and militantly.
