This cornet is one of the earliest of the Yamaha Maestro models without any engraving on the bell. It seems identical to the later versions but some people say these earlier ones play better. This one was originally lacquered, but I had it silver plated a couple of years ago by Woodwind and Brass (Bryce Ferguson) near Edinburgh. It is a good thick layer of hardened silver plate and should last a very long time. The case was also replaced with a Bauhaus Walstein one which has plenty of room for mutes. This has combination locks. This cornet plays very well indeed. The valve compression is excellent and I recently replaced the water key seals with new ones from Yamaha. This is a good professional level instrument that will give years of service. There are three things you need to know:
One of the case hasps broke and I replaced it. You will be hard pushed to see the repair, but I need to declare this.At some point in its past this instrument must have had damage to the second valve casing. This had been fixed before I had the instrument and because it is below the lowest point of valve travel it has no effect on the compression or playing of the instrument. I tried to photograph this but it is hard to see. There is no mouthpiece included in the sale. I would assume that anyone buying an instrument like this would have their own.
