This is a vintage (serial number HK040105) Conn 28D Double French Horn. The 28D is Conn's large bore professional symphony double horn, only built from yellow brass for a lighter, warmer tone compared to the standard nickel. It is otherwise identical to the Conn 8D, having a bore of .468" and a large bell throat in a Kruspe wrap style. The valves move well with excellent compression, and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there is some light scratching and very light rippling throughout the horn, as well as some very small pings and a few light scars. The minor imperfections are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a hardshell case in somewhat worn condition, and a mouthpiece in good condition.How the horn plays: Warm, rich and full sound; round and smooth tone; horn is very responsive and free-blowing; the Bb side timbre is a bit brighter than the F side; the high and low registers speak very well; the horn has a good dynamic range, able to play in the extreme fortissimo without blatting and in the extreme pinissimo without breaking up; it plays like a warmer, lighter version of the 8D (more like an Elkhart era horn than a modern 8D)
