HAMER USA ARTIST STANDARD - ELECTRIC GUITAR IN JAZZ BURST (GATASO) - Bulldog Pickups Purchased Brand New as NOS in 2011 from Richtone Music in Sheffield. All Mahogany Body and Neck in translucent Jazz Burst
Rosewood Fingerboard
Bulldog Cool PAF Boutique Pickups (these cost around £185 new) – these replaced the Seymour Duncan 59s that came as stock I also had the volume for the bridge pickup wired to the first volume pot as this is far more easy to use than the standard Hamer wiring where the first volume is the neck pickup and the middle pot is the bridge volume. Far more user friendly. This guitar is in fantastic condition but for a small chip in the toffee apple varnish near the jack socket and pots and a small compression scratch in the same area of the guitar’s top (Please see the photograph for further evidence). Apart from these two imperfections the guitar is in great condition. Any other visible marks are just dust and finger prints picked up by the camera flash. These imperfections only happened when the guitar slipped out of my hand when placing in the hard case and one of the catches on the case was pointing up and out and clipped the side of the guitar, an innocuous incident that looks far worse than it actually is due to the colour of the nitro lacquer being dark brown. I dare say that a good guitar tech could put this right but at the end of the day it is cosmetic damage only and so I decided to not have it repaired as I believe that guitars are for playing and at some point it is not unusual to get a ding on a guitar, especially if it is being gigged. However, this guitar has NEVER been gigged. The Cool PAF pickups are honestly the best PAF voiced pickups I have played and sound really airy and open like a good humbucker should. They are Alnico 2 magnets in both pickups. The Artist model has an “F” hole and a semi hollow pocket in the upper bout of the guitar and the best comparison I can make with this guitar is that it is very similar to a Gibson 339 small body semi hollow guitar. For those who are not aware, these guitars retailed at around £2500 new in the late 2000s before Fender bought the company and shut them down. They are true hand built custom shop guitars and the build quality is absolutely second to none, they knock Gibson out of the park and into the long grass. An identical guitar to this one recently sold in Guitars4U for £1499. It comes with Certificate of Authenticity and Hamer USA branded original hard case. These guitars are now getting harder and harder to come by since the factory was closed, and with the Bulldog pickups, this is a fantastic guitar for the money. My reason for selling is that I have quite a few high end guitars and am trying to get down now to just a handful that I like to play frequently, as lovely as this guitar is, I find myself more and more drawn to single coil pickup guitars so it is not getting played very much and it deserves to be played and appreciated. It could do smooth jazz right through to balls out rock with ease, a truly versatile and stunning piece of craftsmanship. Photos taken with a flash as there was no natural light available so I will supply some better photographs at the weekend.
Thanks for looking.
