Beautiful Paris France Selmer Grand Prix Balanced Action Trumpet, model 23A, rare Large Bore. Complete with a Selmer Special #3 Mouthpiece as well as a Vincent Bach 7C. Silver plate and rebuilt valves by Kanstul. Compression Like New. Slides spring back somewhat when valves aren't depressed. Includes a Selmer England Case and a cloth finish protection bag. Selmer "A" Balanced trumpets are recognized as some of the best horns ever made. See Pictures. Matching numbers on valves. Slides and valves super smooth. Sounds amazing. Plays wonderfully on all levels. Serial # 8552 apparently dates it to 1950. Ready for your next gig. I am available to answer questions.**I have had a couple of people question that this horn could be a large bore. It is labeled "L" on the valves. (See photos.) It might have been a special order item, or maybe a 23A could be purchased in different sizes in 1950? Maybe Selmer changed their horn designations at some point? Maybe designations were different on horns made for the European market and the US? If anyone has any insight into this issue that they can share, I would be very thankful. I don't have a working caliper, but I did compare it to my ML Burbank Benge, and the Selmer is definitely larger. In any event, it plays extremely well and is apparently very rare. **Update: A couple of very nice people with more knowledge of French trumpets than I, have suggested the following possibilities about the bore size: 1) It was, possibly, a special order item. To this person's knowledge Large bore horns were not very popular in France at the time. 2) The other person said that the French horns in those days were smaller bore than horns made for the American market. This person thought the french "L" might be equivalent to a "ML" U.S. horn. It might be a one of a kind?The Selmer Balanced Trumpets were made famous by Louis Armstrong and Harry James.
