Rare mandolin built by Agostino Rosa in Rieti in 1788, by this author, they know very few mandolins, one of which is kept at the Museum of the Castello Sforzesco in Milan. In all the examples of mandolin of this author, the style of construction is surprisingly modern, the back is smooth and not fluted as was the custom usually in the eighteenth century. The outer band does not have the typical ragged outline baroque but it is essential, as you can see, in Roman plucked instruments eighteenth century (the exemplar of Milan has the identical body). Moreover the strings are attached to a brass tailpiece applied and not applied to the typical four buttons in bone. Unfortunately this exemplary has lost the original keyboard in bone and the headstock is broken and reglued, also there are some necklines in the slats, chipping between neck and headstock. The interior of the case is all covered with paper manuscript, has its original label "Agostino Rosa Fecit Rieti Ottobre 1788", on the bone of the headstock there is a incision with a lion? It needs a restoration! I decided to sell it in these conditions, the buyer will choose the type of restoration: museum conservation or restoration integral to be able to play? In tutti gli esemplari di mandolino esistenti di questo autore, lo stile di costruzione è sorprendentemente moderno, la cassa è liscia e non scannellata come era in uso solitamente nel XVIII sec., la fascia esterna non ha il tipico contorno frastagliato barocco ma è essenziale, come si può osservare, sugli strumenti musicali a plettro romani del XVIII sec. inoltre le corde sono agganciate ad una cordiera applicata in ottone e non ai tipici quattro bottoni in osso. Purtroppo questo esemplare ha perso la tastiera originale in osso e la paletta è spaccata e rincollata, inoltre ci sono alcune scollature nelle doghe, una scheggiatura fra manico e paletta. L'interno della cassa è completamente ricoperto di carta manoscritta, possiede la sua etichetta originale " Agostino Rosa Fecit Rieti Ottobre 1788", sull'osso della paletta c'è un' incisione con un leone? Ha bisogno di un grosso intervento di restauro! Ho deciso di venderlo in queste condizioni per far sceglier all'acquirente il tipo di restauro: conservazione museale o ripristino integrale per poterlo suonare?
