This is a “One-of-a-Kind” Ed Roman Custom Shop Rockingbird guitar. You are looking at a piece of Rock & Roll history. Renowned “guitar-maker to the stars” Ed Roman, passed away on December 14, 2011---This is one of the last guitars that Ed personally signed (see 4th and 5th photos). I have the Certificate of Authenticity from Ed to prove it, and it is included with the guitar. This guitar was part of his personal collection and that he had made to his specifications for himself (see last picture---2nd from left) and was on display in Ed Roman's store and pictured on his website Also included are (2) matched Ed Roman Gold Centurion Medallions.  It was Ed’s intention to have one mounted in the head stock and one on the custom-made case---similar to the 1972 Gibson Firebird Medallion Guitar and Medallion matching case. This is a collector’s item with Luthier Grade Tone Woods, utilizing the highest quality White Korina and Highly Figured Quilted Maple, with a hard maple neck-thru body design.
It would cost you well over $8,000.00 to have a guitar like this made with these options and upgrades. Frets are made from Gold-Tone Adamantium and are surely one of the breakthrough products that Ed Roman made available to his customers.  “These revolutionary frets are made from 24 Kt Gold, Titanium. Unobtainium & some other un named alloys.” (Ed’s words). This guitar was built with the artist in mind---high strength durability to survive traveling on the road while maintaining the optimal weight of 7.1Lb, gives this unique guitar the ability to release the artists’ confidence so they are able to do what they do best…create music for future generations. It’s all about protecting that birth of inspiration, while preserving the signal from the synaptic birth of a thought, through articulate pick attack, vibration racing through your tone wood and the final eruption of emotions out of your amp. Finally freedom to soar!!! A guitar for the connoisseur of the finer things in life---you deserve it. Exceeding your expectations is exciting and magical!!! This guitar’s character timbre is dependent on the careful selection of exclusive, harmonizing materials of the tone woods. The tone generated then travels in the body, realizing the benefits of direct coupling throughout, resulting in a unique combination of attack and richness in sustain. Details are enhanced further releasing the tone nature provided. The guitar then releases the vibrant “emotion of the note” ---the final result; The musician and the instrument are in harmony as one!!! I have recently made a special trip with this Guitar to a true a brilliant Luthier, Jeff Hostetter, at Stringed Instrument Repair in New Freedom PA.  Please check out his website. He is moving, but don’t let that keep you from contacting him. I did and WOW, what a difference it made in the sound of this guitar. Jeff is just a genius with tone and wood of stringed instruments. You could see he was taking all his years of experience to allow the synergy of all the components of the guitar to give all they had to produce sound. Jeff smiled when he first saw the highly figured quilted maple. Jeff was very focused to do his best.  #1. Tuned the guitar using a Korg Tuner, #2. He then adjusted the relief of the neck, #3. He then, using a scale, adjusted the action of the strings. #4. Jeff then switched to a Peterson AutoStrobe Tuner to set intonation. The magic was in full swing now. The rest of the time was spent going up and down the neck of the guitar making adjustments. Playing combinations of scales, bending strings, and cord patterns to confirm pitch and sustain were optimized. The last picture of this guitar is where it was included among Ed’s collection and pictured on the Ed Roman website---it is pictured 2nd from the right. We upgraded the guitar to include the Gold Package before I purchased it. Please refer to the new pictures of the Ed Roman Rockingbird, Custom shop, 3D Quilted Maple White Korina Body. We hang up Fingerboards & Body woods & tap them for resonance & pitch. The highest quality Tone Wood was used to build this guitar” Ed Roman  “Tonally, most people would agree that Korina wins on an electric guitar-White Korina This wood sounds excellent !- Korina is The Holy Grail of Tone Woods “ Ed Roman Korina, is the wood that Gibson used in the late 50's to make some of their most resonant guitars.
These were the original "Flying V", "The Moderne", The "Futura" and the original "Explorer". Ed Roman
Today these guitars are selling in the $35,000.00 range. The original "Flying V's" and "Explorers"  are bringing  prices in excess of $200,000.00.  So it's a fair statement to make that Korina Wood Gibson's are also some of Gibson's most valuable guitars.   Korina is legendary as a tone wood, It is not overly expensive but it is rare. My theory on its rarity is there aren't many lumber importers bringing it in to the country because there is simply not enough other uses for it. “ Ed Roman
“White being sonically better then Black Korina.”Ed Roman More information about Korina wood, can be found at the Gibson’s official website: “The mere mention of in the same breath with a guitar makes many guitarists and collectors drool. It is, after all, the wood used to build some of the most legendary Gibsons of all time—the original Flying V and the Explorer.”“Considered by most experts to be a “super mahogany” or “mahogany deluxe,” Korina wood bears a strong resemblance to mahogany in both tone and grain characteristics. Those same experts also agree that Korina has a sweeter midrange, with enhanced responsiveness, which would seemingly make it more desirable as a guitar-making wood.” Gibson Website More quotes from Ed Roman’s website: “Ed Roman highly recommends ebony fretboards. Ebony is the absolute premium wood for fingerboards. Many companies are not using ebony because it is expensive and harder to work with. If a guitar manufacturer won't do ebony it's usually because they are concerned more with cost cutting than with actual quality. A very dense, very hard wood with straight to slightly interlocked grain. Very fine textured. Gaboon ebony is believed to be the blackest wood that grows. Weight is about 63-64 lbs. per cu. ft.

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES - This very dense timber has a good steam bending classification and very high bending and crushing strength, with high stiffness and resistance to shock loads. Ebony is so strong it has been known to save a neck from breaking.
Benefits Of Using Ebony 1. Ebony is much harder and polishes up beautifully so that the neck feels smooth and slick.  It's much harder and therefore you can get a better percussive tone when doing two hand tapping and hammer on's or playing without a pick. 2. Ebony reduces finger fatigue.  If you play for hours your fingers will appreciate the smoothness. It's barely noticeable but the smoothness makes it so that you can play longer without getting sore fingers.  3. Cosmetically Beautiful,  The Jet Black Ebony contrasts nicely with the binding and/or inlay material, also it effectively hides any filler for a much cleaner look. 4. Ebony is much stronger and much more stable. It helps keep your neck straighter and also protects it from breaking.” My experience: This increases not only the enjoyment of playing it but also creativity. Build a virtuoso instrument andyou will conquer the next dimension playing better than ever before. That is the Rockingbird experience!!! -          Quality of workmanship of Luther’s – Excellent -          Quality of Tone Wood is graded for Luther Grade & Tone Tapped  for Resonance & Pitch – Excellent This guitar has hardly been played since being built. I have less than an hour of playing time on it since being purchased. Someone needs to let the world hear what a master built guitar sounds like. It will let your creativity fly, to inspire you. All offers and questions are welcome!!!
