Charvel Model 2 electric guitar, complete with Shadow GTM-6 midi controller, leads and power convertor. This is a fairly rare Charvel Model 2, which is equipped with a factory fitted Schaller piezo tremolo bridge – rather than the Kahler or Jackson JT-6 units usually fitted. This bridge allows it to be used as a guitar synthesiser controller – more of that later. The body and headstock are painted gloss black, and the guitar as a whole is in excellent condition. Made in Japan around 1989, the guitar remains stock having no mods or 'upgrades'. The serial number stamped on the neck plate is 251483. It has a basswood body equipped with the original pickup, which is a J90C Humbucker in the bridge position. This is operated via a single volume control. The 22 fret rock maple neck, with a rosewood fingerboard, sports a carbon fibre nut, Jackson tuners, and the original Kahler locknut. The pointy headstock is also fully intact. The neck is straight, having a standard scale length of 25 1/2", and the maple has aged to a nice golden colour. Both original rear cavity covers are fitted. The extra electronics needed for the Schaller bridge are hidden away behind the control cavity cover. Guitar is also supplied with the original Japanese warranty card – to add a little more provenance! As mentioned earlier, this guitar differs from a standard Model 2 because when it’s plugged into the Shadow GTM-6 head unit, it enables you to connect and play synthesisers, keyboards, samplers, etc with the guitar. This unit doesn’t have any sounds of its own – but it can plug into, and control, any synth with a midi input. And at the flick of the switch – the guitar goes back to being a standard Model 2, providing all the classic metal sounds Charvels are famous for! The Schaller bridge also acts as a second ‘pick-up’, and the signal from this can be taken from the jack socket on the back of the Shadow GTM-6. The second control knob on the guitar acts as a volume control for the Schaller bridge’s output. The output from the standard J-90C pickup can also be taken from the back panel of the Shadow GTM-6 – please see the photos. The Shadow GTM-6 still works perfectly. A new stereo jack lead is included to allow it to connect the guitar to the Shadow GTM-6. A new midi lead is included to connect the GTM-6 to a synth. The Shadow GTM-6 unit is branded as an Ovation – but this is the same unit used by Charvel originally. As these head units are now quite rare, I got this from abroad – so I’ve included a brand new 240V to 110V convertor to allow it to be used in the UK. When not used as a synth controller, the Charvel guitar can connect to any standard amp with a normal mono lead just like a standard Charvel Model 2.
