King Zephyr Special Tenor Sax
#209xxx from 1938
This one is in simply amazing restored condition. I had to take a very good look before concluding it has been relacquered. Certainly the best job I have ever seen done on a King, maybe on any horn. Since the relacquer it is virtually unused and in the 98 or 99% range.
The pads are supple and seating. I had some adjustments and setup work done to it. It is very responsive and efficient. It doesn't take much air to get a warm and beautiful tone out of it. Not particularly a a blaster or powerhouse. More of a warm beautiful nuanced jazz and ballad horn and the subtone is particularly sweet. You might want adjustments to taste but the horn in gig ready right out of the case. The rods are tight and the whole horn is up to high shop standards. The neck has the matching serial number and is also in pristine condition as you can see.The original end plug is included. The case is original with the latches replaced by one modern and sturdy latch in the center that holds very well. The case is quite clean and entirely free of any musty odors.
