This is not your typical eBay sitar.  It was handmade by Rajesh Sharma, son of the late Mohan Lal Sharma, five years ago.  Mohan Lal sitars are among the finest made.  This sitar has been freshly restrung with Pyramid wire.  The frets have been polished and the pegs chalked. The jawari is fresh with new graphite under the strings.  The instrument is strung Kharaj Pancham with four main strings, three chikari strings, and 13 tarabs or sympathetic strings.  The bridges are camel bone.  The instrument has semi-closed jawari and a beautiful, open sound.  Hooks for the bass strings has been installed on the highest fret.  There is no discernable fret wear or burring on the frets.  The tarab grommets are traditional and round.  The spiral pegs are high quality and well-fitted.  The langot is brass.  It has a French polish finish with nice pen work in a half-decoration style.  The understated design is classic Benares.  This sitar was hand-selected in Varanasi and air-shipped to the United States.  It comes in a very nice padded gig bag that is in pristine condition.  Rajesh makes a very limited number of instruments per year.  They are almost impossible to find preowned, especially in this condition.         Lower 48 only and no international shipping please.
