1971 Aria Model 35 by Ryoji Matsouka The Ryoji Matsuoka guitar works was a small scale guitar manufacturer with less than 15 employees.
For a few years during the 1960s and early 1970s, Matsuoka produced the higher end Aria guitar models for Shiro Arai, founder of Aria .
These Aria models either have Ryoji Matsuoka's name on the label or are marked RM with a red stamp on the neck block as this one has. Japanese luthier Ryoji Matsuoka offered good quality classical guitars during the 1970s. Guitars were offered as part of the
M Series with models were distributed in US by Tornavoz Music in Santa Monica, CA. In 1975, prices ranged between
$270 and $1,050. This M35 would be in the upper range being solid cedar and rosewood.
Top: Solid CedarSides: Solid Indian RosewoodBack: Solid Indian RosewoodFingerboard: Rosewood Neck: MahoganyBridge: RosewoodScale: 650 mmNut width52 mm The action is set to 3.5 mm under E6 and 3.00 under E1. This guitar produces surprisingly loud sound, warm but clear notes with great sustain.
She has crazing in the finish from age, but is structurally perfect and solid as a rock. It is very important to consider that if modern era luthiers are using 40 years old woods to make a classical guitar, they’re priced in the multiple thousands. You won’t be disappointed or your money back (less actual shipping costs) God Bless and Happy Picking!
