You don’t see this very often, A VINTAGE 1962 FENDER PRINCETON BROWN AMPLIFIER with a 6” hole on the LEFT side of the cabinet. WHY?
Your guess is as good as mine. I bought it years ago and was going to try to repair it, but got used to it and never bothered.
This is a great sounding amp that breaks up when the volume control is set at around “2”—I’ve used the amp to play out and mic’d it into the sound system, it sounds great.
The cabinet is in pretty good shape for an amp that is almost 55 years old, except for the hole in the side and the back plate has been modified (see photo). The tolex is good except for the stain on it.
The TUBE CHART is intact with the letter coding of " LH " which dates this FENDER PRINCETON as being manufactured in the AUGUST OF 1962.
It comes with the original Oxford 10J4-2 speaker, the side of the speaker is stamped with “465-221” which indicates it is an Oxford speaker.
A couple of years ago, I had a new period correct power Transformer (a Mercury Tone Clone FBPP) put in it, the previous owner had modified the chassis by drilling holes to fit a different transformer, so there are two extra holes next to the transformer. The Output transformer looks to be original and has “12810B” and “606146” stamped in it.
Please look a pictures of the inside of the amp to see the caps and internal workings.
Overall, a great sounding amp IF you want something that breaks up a lower volumes and pretty cool looking despite the crazy hole in the side.
