This AC30 was made approx mid 1970. I have used date codes on the capacitors (D9 is last three months of 1969 and B0 the second three months of 1970) and also on the Celestion G12 Alnicos which are both JC28 (28th September 1970) to deduce this. This is probably one of the last original style chassis made with the GZ34 rectifier and handwired tag boards. It even has a Haddon power transfotmer like the early 1960s one. It appears to be original. Shortly after this was made, Vox switched to the disastrous printed circuit boards which were prone to failure. None of that rubbish in here. Both speakers have just been reconed by the excellent Wembley Loudspeakers. I can highly recommend them. They've repaired a fair few of these for me in the past. I have replaced all the old electrolytic capacitors and so the amp runs well. It sounds every bit as good as you would expect. The trem and vibrato effects are both fully functional. The grille cloth was replaced as the previous one was ripped to pieces. I also replaced the scrim behind the cloth. This is essential as it supports the grillecloth enabling it to lay flat.Please see other efforts on ebay for higher priced amps where this clearly hasn't been done. You will see the grillecloth sinking back in to the speakers. Not a good look. The overall condition of the basketweve vynide is faily good. There are no major rips or missing pieces. Obviously give the amp is 47 years old, there are the odd areas where the vynide is damaged. Two of the handles are replacements as is one of the 6 grilles.
