This is a mountain dulcimer by well known builder Robert Mize of Blountville, TN.  Mize was very famous in the folk world, and much has been written about him including an article in Foxfire 3 a copy of which is included with this dulcimer.  The Foxfire article is from 1973 so this dulcimer is from approximately that time period.  The VHS video included is from much later, shortly before his death. Mize had a truly unique way of assembling his dulcimers and the video shows exactly how he built them from selecting the wood at the sawmill to final finishing.  It is long, and a joy to watch!  This dulcimer is number 1035, and has been played very little if at all.  It is a 5 string, and has Mize' brand just behind the first fret on the fingerboard.  The top is poplar.  Back, sides, fingerboard and peghead are walnut.  Not sure what the pegs are.   We had a small collection of the best known of the dulcimer revival builders.  I bought them to study their construction methods, and learned a lot!  But we have needed the money, so this is the last one.  If you have been looking for a really good example of Bob Mize' work, you won't find a better one than this. A case is included, the one the dulcimer is leaning against in the photo of the back.  It is a gun case, but it works well for mountain dulcimers!Free shipping to the 48 contiguous states.  Others contact me for a quote. If you have any questions whatever, ask below.  Or you can call me 563-571-5296.  Thanks for looking!  Chris Foss
