This is a remarkable sounding and ornate Custom Signature model Martin 000-40 SPR guitar. Known as the Peter Rowan Midnight Moonlight model. Martin made 87 total, and two were left-handed models. This is number 54.
A unique Martin because it is maybe the only 40 series guitar with Mahogany back and sides. It sounds full and rich, and is setup and ready to play. The 000 body has the sloped shoulders, giving more sound chamber for response. The mahogany is rich and warm sounding.
The guitar weighs just 3 pounds, 15 ounces, allowing for a voice and volume like few I have ever heard. This guitar sounds like you would expect from this elite level instrument from C.F Martin. Incredible. Describing the sound we have to use words that describe the fullness of a piano, openness, chime, depth, clarity, resonance, note separation and decay. The decay time is about 21 seconds! Once you play this, you will understand the true art of lutherie. Includes the Geib style original Martin arched case, a letter from the original owner, and the original blank warranty form from Martin. Because you would be the third owner, the warranty does not apply; the paperwork is part of the heritage.
According to C.F. Martin: “The 000-40SPR Peter Rowan "Midnight Moonlight" Signature Edition model is based on Martin’s classic 000 12-fret design, Rowan’s personal favorite.” Though somewhat obscure, the 000 12-fret body shape is thought by many to be the best sounding Martin size ever offered, combining responsiveness, balance, depth, clarity, tremendous projection, and of course visual beauty. Tortoise colored bindings, an abalone rosette, an OM teardrop pickguard and an ebony pyramid bridge contribute to the tasteful elegance of this special guitar."
This guitar is a fingerstyle monster, with a 1-13/16 nut width and 2- 5/16 saddle spacing. Very few makers offer this, mostly custom or Collings. Since it's a full scale, cross and flatpicking works equally well. Peter Rowan isn't limited in his guitar styles or imagination in helping design this beauty. Check out the inlays!

This guitar has been enjoyed but is still a 9.5 condition. It is in great shape, and is ready to be enjoyed again. No cracks, no repairs, no eyesores. There is a tiny area of marking on the back that literally cannot be photographed or even seen unless you hold the guitar in the right light reflection. The pickguard has light scuffing, and there are two extremely tiny dimples on the top upper bout, bass side. So if you want showroom you could try to find one of the other 84 right-hand models, but this one is very close. For being 15 years old, it's remarkable.
