What began as Morrie Backun’s instrument repair shop has quickly evolved into one of the global leaders in clarinet manufacturing. Professional musicians around the world play Backun instruments, from Ricardo Morales, to Corrado Giuffredi, to jazz legend Eddie Daniels. Backun barrels and bells are found on LeBlanc, Selmer, and Buffet products, enhancing the sound.Along with this evolution, in my opinion Backun products have taken over the intermediate priced instrument market with professional quality with the Backun Protégé Clarinet. It is a step up from the Alpha and is designed to have superb scale and acoustics while being light and easy to play. It is built to have the same quality and uses the same natural woods of artist instrument woods costing in the $7,000 to $8,000 range. This Protégé offered for sale is made from cocobollo with matching 65mm barrel and bell. It has rose gold keys and an adjustable thumb rest.I am selling it because I just acquired a Tosca that I like very much. I have owned a Backun and a MoBa, but for the money I like the sound produced by this Protégé the best! This instrument is in like-new condition without any scratches or cracks.
