Luminous Centerline Custom is made to be your dream guitar. Crafted by hand with specially selected woods and materials, this beautiful, versatile instrument is capable of crossing genres with panache. Built by hand using a refined combination of modern and traditional luthiery and woodworking techniques, this stunning instrument has unique tonal flavor and special switching options.This Centerline Custom features a chambered, one-piece Genuine Honduran Mahogany body. This wood’s name is synonymous with classic warmth and beauty. This instrument is no exception. A fully chambered body enhances this warmth with airy, open sound and increased resonance. Maple provides crisp attack and silky high-end response. The AAAA Flame Maple top is dyed by hand using a multiple application process that enhances its stunning grain. The corners and sides are meticulously protected from dye to give the appearance of a bound body. A thin nitro finish gleams and protects without sealing the wood’s natural resonance in plastic.All Centerline guitars feature a hand-carved neck joint, offering major playing improvements over traditional guitars of this style.The neck is constructed from first-quality quarter sawn Eastern Maple and features a highly figured, lacquered Torrified Maple fingerboard. Torrified, or roasted (or tempered) wood goes through a vacuum-heating process that achieves the effect of years of aging. This makes it very dimensionally stable and enhances figure. The 9.5” radius fingerboard features 22 extra-tall/medium-width frets with Paua Abalone dot inlay on the fingerboard, side of the neck, and ornamental accents on the back of the headstock. Its hand carved C profile strikes a balance between true-vintage fat and modern thin. It feels cozy along the full length for players of all hand sizes. The thin nitrocellulose on the back of the neck is sanded to a satin finish for superior motion.The combination of warm Mahogany and bright Maple makes this guitar a versatile electric instrument. Turn the Tone and Volume knobs to 10 and this guitar rings brightly. Take either (or both) controls down, and the warm tones of the chambered body are revealed. The pickups were selected to emphasize this tonal versatility. The Onamac Windery Topless Tele set is augmented with a Reverse-Wound/Reverse-Polarity middle pickup. The custom middle pickup, engaged in position 4 of an Oak-Grigsby 5-way Super Switch, gives “Strat Quack” with a Tele flair. The partially uncovered neck pickup has a brighter tone than a typical Tele. These are hand wound by Kerry Learned at Onamac Windery in Washington state. Here’s what he has to say:"Here's a hybrid Tele set that's a cross between my Blues Tele and Vintage tone Tele sets. A warm fat sounding bridge with and a really sweet sounding neck that's wound a little on the stout side but due to the open top cover it has the sweet tone of a Tele neck with a clarity not typically heard from a Tele neck."The covers on typical Tele neck pickups have a negative affect on the clarity and tend to darken the tone, some more than others depending on the material it's made from. This open top cover doesn't interfere with the magnets ability to sense string vibration so it has a sound with more clarity and harmonics, much like a Strat pickup does.
"Both pickups use alnico magnets made to my formulation and dimensions. The alnico 3 neck is 43 awg plain enamel wound to 7.5k, the bridge is 42 awg SPN(single poly-nylon) with alnico 5 for a fat bluesy sound. The neck pickup has a nickel plated open top cover with custom gray Forbon flatwork. The bridge has black rope winding with gray bottom flatwork and copper plated base plate."
