Well known as one of the best ukulele makers in Japan, he has a two-year wait list.Shimo-san's instruments are hard to come by, even in Japan, and almost never for sale elsewhere.This one-of-a-kind instrument has solid premium-grade curly koa front, back and sides... even the neck is curly koa!Outrageously shaped body with lots of crazy angles: diagonal headstock, fretboard end, sound hole and bridge.Despite its strange shape, this uke is actually quite comfortable to hold, whether standing or sitting. Radically shaped cutaway with 14-fret joint, cutaway to the 17th fret, and 19 frets total.Diagonal hand-carved ebony bridge in the shape of a surfboard, and an ebony radius fretboard, with a bone nut and compensated bone saddle for perfect intonation all the way up the neck. Rare red padauk wood top and back binding, wide sound hole rosette, and dot marks, with a black pearl shell comet on the 12th fret. (The official name for this model is the "Comet 11".)Curly koa headstock overlay with ebony ukulele on a red padauk wood heart inlay, plus Shimo logo in pearl shell. Real white pearl shell top binding, with two rows of white pearl dots like little sequins around the egg-shaped sound hole.Paua shell shell side markers at 5,7,10,12, 15, 17 and 19th frets, mirroring the fretboard markers.Top-of-the-line Gotoh brass gear tuners with ivoroid buttons, staggered to match the headstock slant.Radius frets for ease of playing... even bar chords and complicated jazz chords are effortless.D-TAR brand active pickup with preamp and volume and tone dials inside the sound hole.Carefully made with an attention to detail, and with a beautiful satin finish.
