I have assembled a very unique Fender fretless precision bass, pairing a brand new (new old stock) Fender custom shop lake placid blue postmodern P bass string-through body with a genuine vintage 1970s Fender fretless maple neck. I have always wanted to create a placid blue p bass with a one-piece fretless vintage neck and the outcome is really beautiful. You won’t find another bass like this anywhere. I don’t think this combination has ever been done fretless. The neck is from the 1970s but the date stamp and serial number are not readable as they have faded. But the good news is that this neck is practically flawless, and is stamped “J Torres” who is widely regarded as one of the best Fender neck makers at the time. It was purchased as a neck alone, no body, and with the original tuners. It has a stunning fingerboard with no issues other than some very slight finish wear near the nut and before the first fret, which is very difficult to even see, and does not affect the sound at all. The rest of the neck is smooth as glass and sounds incredible. It has a nice satin semi-gloss fingerboard finish that is hard to see in the pics. Truss rod works, and the action is very low at its current setup, but can be adjusted for your playing preference. This neck has typical wear and aging for its age, but overall is in incredible shape. The body is from the Fender Custom Shop, and is NOS (new old stock), and comes with the official Fender Custom Shop certificate. It is a postmodern P bass body with contoured neck area, Nitro Lake Placid Blue color and is string through for what some claim is better overall tone and resonance. It can be strung string-through, or just through the bridge itself, as options with the Hipshot bridge.I then used genuine Fender pickgaurd and pots, new Fender original vintage design P bass pickups, a brand new string-through Hipshot bridge, and finished it off with brand new Ernie Ball Super Slinky cobalt flat wound bass strings. They sound bright for flatwounds, don't sound dull in my opinion, and will keep the neck in great condition. Round wound strings can be used however for more "mwah" and growl, but just keep an eye on the fingerboard as with any fretless. It is stunning to look at and plays even better. Comes with a new Fender locking hardshell case with keys.I spent a lot of money creating this bass, and it is really intended for a very special owner who also loves vintage era maple fretless necks like i do, this one was rescued as a neck without a body and given new life with a rare placid blue body with brand new components. I am being as transparent as possible with this listing and my price is firm. I collect fretless basses and rescue fretless bass necks, and I would love to see this go to a new owner with the same appreciation, but will gladly keep it in my collection if there are no buyers. Some costs that I incurred:
vintage Fender P bass fretless maple neck with tuners: $525 (can go for much more)
New Fender custom shop body, string through: $700
New Fender pickguard, pots, and pickups: $150
New Hipshot string through bridge: $100
New Fender neck plate, new Ernie Ball strings, new strap buttons: $50
new Fender hardshell case: $100
labor: ???
total: $1600+Thanks for looking and please feel free to ask any questions!
