Up for sale, a 2000 Fender Sub-Sonic in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Produced only from 1999-2000, the Sub-Sonic is a baritone version of a USA Fat Strat, tuned B to B with a 27 1/2" scale length. Providing the perfect middle ground between a conventional Stratocaster and a Bass VI, the Sub-Sonic is capable of everything from tic-tac bass to rumbling, thick drones via the bridge position humbucker. The instrument weighs in at 7lbs 12oz. Particularly versatile and applicable to a huge range of musical styles, the Sub-Sonic is the perfect secret weapon for studio use, and we've set up this baritone here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action and solid intonation. The maple neck has a smooth light gloss finish with a medium C shaped profile and 22 fret slab rosewood fretboard. The original medium jumbo frets are virtually flawless, showing no wear and playing cleanly up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots. At the nut, the Sub-Sonic measures 1 11/16" in width for ideal string spacing that is comfortable but never cramped. The headstock features a set of Fender-stamped Schaller chrome tuning machines that turn very smoothly, and the USA "DZ" prefix serial number is present on the back of the headstock. All of the electronics work as they should, and the Volume and dual Tone control setup with a five-way blade pickup selector switch is consistent with standard Strat wiring. The hardtail bridge and string through body increase sustain and note clarity, and all of the hardware and plastic parts on the body are near mint. There are a few extremely faint scratches in the clear coat on the gloss black finish on the back of the body, and a few light marks on the treble side of the pickguard in the pick path, but overall this is a remarkably clean and well cared for Fender, and a prime example of this rare and discontinued model! The original Fender-branded G&G black tolex hardshell case is included.
