Up for sale, a 2012 Fender '57 reissue Precision Bass in excellent condition and perfect working order. Discontinued and part of the famed American Vintage series, this P-Bass replicates all the physical and tonal characteristics of a genuine bass from 1957, with distinct features such as the anodized gold pickguard, alder body, one-piece maple neck and fretboard, and split-coil pickup with raised A string pole pieces for better string balance. This bass comes complete with the original hangtags, unopened case candy (chrome covers, polish cloth, manual, etc), and the original tweed G&G hardshell case.Plugged in, this bass sound very big, with a thick low end punch that is balanced by a healthy amount of upper mid presence that sounds fantastic through a cooking tube amp. Of course with the tone knob rolled off, the bass has that quintessential old-school thump that would be perfectly at home on your favorite Motown tracks. The bass weighs in at a respectable 8lbs 14oz, balancing well on a strap and delivering a strong attack and sweet sustain without breaking the back! Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with roundwound 45-100 strings, this bass plays very smoothly with low action and solid intonation, and the instrument speaks very clearly in every register. The maple neck has a classic "wide and flat" neck profile that is a signature of late '50s Precision basses, with a 1 3/4" wide synthetic bone nut. The profile does have a notable roundness in the shoulders lacking in earlier years of this reissue, and it's safe to assume that Fender was gearing up for the '58 reissue currently on the market, as this profile has a bit more substance akin to a '58. The 34" scale boasts 20 original, vintage-style frets that are incredible clean, with well rounded crowns and virtually no wear. The bass plays cleanly up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots as well. On the headstock, the original Fender waterslide decal is present with only minor wear through the "Fe" of "Fender", along with the stock nickel clover button reverse tuning machines, which turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The body boasts all original electronics, with full size CTS pots wired to the stock pickup with the distinctive raised A pole pieces (something only seen on Fender basses from 1957-58). The stock bridge, knurled metal knobs, and black molded thumb rest are also present. The gold anodized pickguard is in fantastic shape, and provides the dual functions of keeping any extra hum from the electronics dampened and also increasing the treble response of the bass in a small, yet appreciable way. The expected Fender Corona factory stamps are present in the neck pocket and on the neck heel, noting a date of May 22nd, 2012. The gloss two-tone sunburst nitro lacquer finish highlights the grain of the alder body and provides a nice contrast to the gold pickguard.Cosmetically, this bass has been extremely well cared for, with only a few small marks of light use. There are small finish chips around the edges of the neck plate where it was overtightened at one time, some extremely tiny nicks on the treble side waist of the body, and light targeted buckle rash only in the clear coat, just south of the neck plate, but that's about it! This American Vintage '57 Precision Bass is in great shape and would make a solid addition to any stage or studio arsenal, with a truly classic sound and sparingly little wear. The original tweed hardshell case is included. This case is in excellent shape with clean tweed and working latches. The original case candy is still factory sealed, and the bass comes complete with all of the original paperwork, as well as the pair of "ashtray" chrome pickup/bridge covers, and a Fender polish cloth.
