A beautiful antique french master violin made by Louis Moitessier circa 1800.Very handsome french master violin made circa 1800 in Mirecourt by Louis Moitessier, a maker of some importance. The top is made of a single piece of spruce, and shows regular thin grain lines. The back is made of one piece of flamed maple, the beautiful irregular curl slightly descending from the left to the right. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood. The varnish, entirely original, is of a brown colour on a golden ground. A fantastic german work of the time with very fine materials, and a nice singularity with a strong heritage of the 18th century french masters. The head is superb, the purfling shows bee stings on corners, which have been harmoniously rounded by time and use. The violin has been well played and has developed a charming patina.The violin is in a good restored condition, with some old stable repairs on top including a in the soundpost region, and a piece of wood grafted at the left f hole. The button is unbroken and original, the head is repair-free, and the violin even retains its original neck. A beauty!The violin has been entirely revised and set-up, including a new rosewood tailpiece with bone fret, the matching endpin, a rosewood chinrest, and Thomastik Dominant new strings set. The pegs are very old but fit perfectly. The bridge is a bit old, branded "Pouget", and fits nicely.On the inside back can be found the original fire brand of the master, "Moitessier à Paris". The violin is guaranteed 100% authentic. The sound is mature and warm, and will bring you everything you expect from a good french concert violin.Dimensions are the following :LOB : 363 mm.Upper bouts : 170 mm.Middle bouts : 116 mm.Lower bouts : 210 mm.The instrument comes with a new rectangular case.
