This is a vintage (serial number 665209) Olds "Conn 6D clone" Double French Horn. This instrument has the same wrap and bore as a Conn 6D, and plays very well. These horns play very much like Conn 6Ds, though they often have better tone and responsiveness. The valves move well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are some small dings, as well as light scratching and etching throughout the instrument. The F-side third slide is a bit stiff and requires more effort to move than the others. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a somewhat worn hardshell case and a mouthpiece in good condition.How the horn plays: Warm, open and bright sound. The horn is quick and light. The horn is very free-blowing and responsive. The Bb side timbre is a bit brighter than the F side. The low and high range speak well. The horn has a good dynamic range as well, capable of a soft pianissimo without breaking up and a full, edgy fortissimo without blattingAll horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop710 N.
