RARE MEL-TONES

BAND EQUIPMENT / ATLAS STAND.

RARE  ESTATE  ITEMS.

What if you could reach out and
Grab the same mic stand Arty Shaw,
Ginny O'Connor and Les Baxter sang with
in America, in the 1940's.

Note the name has the dash in the middle "MEL-TONES"
Only one band ever existed, in the 1940's, in America
on the east coast with this specific band logo with the dash...
Mel Torme's Jazz band...The "MEL-TONES".Mel-tones included: ARTY SHAW, LES BAXTER & GINNY O'CONNOR
-All supproting and Backing up Mel Torme.
(Who was like Frank Sinatra back then)Jazz was the PUNK ROCK, of the 40's.
It said "scre*w you" to traditional orchestra arrangement.
Thsoe old arrangement were for "squares". (Old boring folk)
The MEL-TONES were the FIRST band to sing in Jazz like chords. You laugh now but, the people who stood behind, and used THIS EXACT
mic stand... TRULY changed the music in America.
Without Jazz we'd have no Quincy Jones.
And he produced MICHAEL JACKSON,
So without Jazz ....we'd have a very different POP sound today.

Hope that didn't sound "preachy"(Hi Quincey... we STILL love you) BETTY'S!
MANY WOULD COPY The MEL-TONES!Note: (more proof of authenticity) Chrome is all worn from sweating hands grabbing the top of stand...
the top half of top shaft, FOR DECADES.. has more use than any atlas we have ever seen.

FINISH IS GONE FROM ACID, THAT COMES FROM OUR (gross but true)...SWEATY PALMS & HANDS.
that's why guitar neck paint wears off too.   THIS WAS A WORKING BANDS MIC,  the MEL-TONES put their name on it...
probably did this to all their gear as not to leave it behind with house band equip.
the MEL-TONES owned mic stand - this is for sure 100%
You Get...1. "MEL TONES" MIC STAND CAST IRON BASE - see pics
2.
1940's 2 Piece adjustable ATLAS SHAFT
3. VINTAGE ELECTRO VOICE - EV "BIRD CAGE" MICROPHONE - works good!
4. Vintage Cable FOR MIC W 1/4" end.  WORKS FINE.
5.  We will pack this to arrive safely!

The Mel-Tones, which included Les Baxter and Ginny O'Connor, had several hits fronting Artie Shaw's band and on their own,
including Cole Porter's "What Is This Thing Called Love?"  The Mel-Tones were among the first jazz-influenced vocal groups,
blazing a path later followed by The Hi-Lo's, The Four Freshmen, and The Manhattan Transfer. Some say the GRETSCH HI-LO tron  pickup....was named after the HI-Lo's band who copied the Mel-Tones style.

Note: There are 4 FELT PAD SLIDERS ON THIS ATLAS STAND...
Put There to prevent scratching nice hardwood stages, they are worn down, from 70 years of use...
to the height of the standard atlas 4 stand feet.  WE HAVE NOT SEEN THESE BEFORE.
Maybe a custom stand ordered FROM ATLAS with felt pads?Successful bands, Who made money and were popular ...like the Mel-Tones played better stages, these FELT PADs mentioned above... stopped scratches on nice wood stages.
We have not seen this in the stands from the 50's and 60's.We also found other "stands" from the 1940's that match this technology and "adjustment" design.
