I'd stand on Joe Bonamassa's coffee table in my cowboy boots and declare that this amp is as good as or better than any.I you've been lusting after a Dumble or Dumble-style amp but can't afford to drop $30,000 on one, here's your chance to own "that sound."This one left the VVT bench in 2007 after they'd perfected the design and Rick Derringer had taken it out, run it through its paces, and suggested modifications. It truly is "one of a kind," because the last mod was to delete the effects loop. The production models don't have one, this one does.
"...that is the amp we made to prototype Ricks signature amp... Rick used the amp and made some suggestions. He specifically did not want an FX loop so that is the only one."
This is the prototype that Rick took out on the road with Ringo Starr's All Star Band to demo. He suggested some tweaks, which VVT implemented.
All point-to-point wired with top-grade components and epoxy sealed.Tone for days. Simple enough to dial in your sound quickly but smart enough that you can tweak it to exact perfection.Unlike some powerful amps, this one sounds just as good at low volume as it does cranked. In my opinion, it's the perfect guitar amp. In the studio, it's a player's dream. It will coast from Allman/Betts clean sustain to Carlton-esque cream to over the top metal with just minor adjustments to the dials. On one session, the client requested a Gibbons (1st Album) sound and this amp delivered it perfectly. On stage, it's sensitive enough that you can set it and control distortion, etc., with your guitar's volume knob. It does play nice with pedals, too.I've loved owning and playing it, although I was kinda shy about gigging with it. I'm focusing on film/video music now, and can't really justify holding on to this beauty any longer. It's been on consignment at South Austin Guitars for a few months- they figured it would sell at $3,200, but they were wrong. So, I'm going to put a low, way below market value, starting bid on this.I'll be happy to answer questions. I'm in Terlingua, Texas and will deliver to Austin or the Hill Country or anywhere sanely close to Terlingua or Austin. This is a heavy tube amp with big transformers. I'll ship it either UPS or USPS.
