Seventeen years of age and I cannot find any mar, nick, crack or chip other than some very light pick brushing on the guard. These were made for only a short time and are sought after today for more than the appealing looks.Unlike the usual SG Specials this model was given a mahogany neck which is rounded and slim instead of maple and an Ebony fret board rather than rosewood. At 6.8 pounds it carries itself well with great balance and a little heft without being tiresomely heavy. It is equipped with two 490 series humbucker pickups which team with the mahogany body and neck for a strong, mellow, full sound with great resonance. Many players describe it as a favorite that is really good for blues, rock, jazz and country but don't expect it to be a metal screamer. The matt or, in my opinion, semi-gloss finish has advantages in both look and performance. It would be great if Gibson offered this in other colors. Two volume, two tone and a three position switch provide you control of the sonic wide ranging variations you want.The case is in very good condition with the only flaw a small tear at the top edge.. I am a collector more so than a player as a result of talent limitations. Mostly I acquire Gibson products with an eye to condition, quality, unique features, limited production and whether I like it enough to be satisfied to own it forever. I am extremely proud of each guitar I reluctantly offer for sale and I invite you to review my other listings and my feedback. My reason for selling at this point is to finance acquiring some rather expensive additions to the collection. This SG is every bit an excellent example of the quality, innovation and performance Gibson has always been known to produce.
