Description

1978 Fender Telecaster Star Owned Custom Made For Fred Newell Of TNN's Nashville Now!
Here is a very special guitar that is going to really enjoy this piece of country music history. Fred Newell was recording all of the lead guitar tracks for the band ALABAMA. Alabama's lead guitarist, Jeff Cook, gave a Fender neck to Fred (you can still see the Fender logo and skunk stripe through the checking red, Nitro finish in the video that is playing at the bottom of this page). Fred took that neck to AJ Nelson, the "cabinet" maker (body) over at the Sho-Bud pedal steel guitar company and AJ built the rest of this infamous axe using the same flag paint job that is featured on every single one of Alabama's album covers. AJ completed this guitar for Fred to play on the new show on The Nashville Network, TNN, called Nashville Now. The show was the biggest country music show since Hee Haw. Fred played a different guitar on every song it seemed, but this axe was in regular rotation on the show for its entire 10 year run. COMES WITH A LETTER FROM FRED NEWELL THAT READS AS FOLLOWS: "HERE'S A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE "DIXIE" GUITAR FOR THE PERSON WHO BOUGHT IT . THE "DIXIE" WAS MADE IN 1978, THE FIRST YEAR OF NASHVILLE NOW. JEFF COOK OF "ALABAMA: GOT THE NECK FOR ME FROM FENDER (AT THAT TIME I WAS RECORDING A LOT WITH ALABAMA). I GOT ALL OF THE OTHER PARTS AND TOOK THEM TO A. J. NELSON WHO WORKED AT THE SHO-BUD "MFG" CO. IN NASHVILLE. A.J. CUT THE BODY, AND I TOOK THE NECK TO DIANE PATRICK WHO DID THE INLAYS FOR A LOT OF PICKERS. AFTER THE INLAYS WERE COMPLETED, A. J. PAINTED THE GUITAR WITH REAL LACQUER AND I HAD A PLACE CALLED "ALPHA GRAPHICS" DO THE "XXXXX (NOT LEGIBLE) AND BARS. I USED THIS GUITAR QUITE A BIT ON NASHVILLE NOW."Own a piece of guitar history.
