This is a unique opportunity to have a period piece piano.   The Piano was built by the well known and respected English Maker J J Hopkinson in London in 1859.  Production of Hopkinson pianos continued until 1998.  The serial number is 24859.  It is straight strung and the action has over-dampers as was standard at the time this piano was built. This piano was extensively restored approximately 15 years ago as follows:-
- the walnut figured casework was repaired as required and  totally refinished
- the top panel fretwork was repaired and a new back cloth fitted
- the soundboard was stripped back to the bare wood and refinished- all new strings were made and fitted
- a full set of new hammer heads and felts plus new damper felts were fitted
- new leathers and other important parts were fitted in the action as necessary
- the original  key tops were cleaned and retained
- it has been tuned and played since the work was completedThis is mid nineteenth century technology and thus it does not have the advantages of the improvements in modern twenty-first century piano design, particularly in the stringing, action and keys. However, it is such a striking period piece at 157 years old, so it is good to view and play.  In the right setting this will be a stunning piece of furniture which can also be played and fully enjoyed. The dimensions are:  W59 inches (1500mm) x D23¼ inches (590mm) x H50¼ inches (1276mm).This piano is being sold now because it is taking up too much room in our ‘downsized family home’, as apart from other musical instruments we have four upright pianos, a grand piano and a harmonium!  A large amount of money was spent on the restoration work and whilst I appreciate that the market is full of pianos, particularly upright pianos for sale which has considerably depressed the prices, this piano stands out with it being such a very outstanding example of a period piece.Delivery to all parts of the UK can be arranged at the Purchaser’s expense. Price £1,600.  Please feel free to make a ‘reasonable’ offer.  I will always consider offers so do ask, I will not be offended, I can always say no, but I might say yes!
