This violin is in phenomenal condition considering it's age. It has had few repairs, but it maintains its true, original symmetry and lines. You can visually gather the marks of age and maturity of the instrument. This violin is in playable condition. Johann Georg Psenner (I & II) were both extremely talented craftsman, and few specimens of their work are known to still be in existence. On 9 September 1732 Johann Georg (I) Psenner (ca.1680-1762) of Bozen was granted residency and his licence as a lute maker in Innsbruck. In 1752 he saw a disagreeable competitor in the joiner and “harp maker” (Härpfenmacher) Georg Kößl of Hötting. His son Johann Georg (II) Psenner (1747- after 1798) became qualified by doing his apprenticeship with Georg Klotz in Mittenwald, among other things, to take over his father’s operation in 1768, which may have been run by Ignatius Locatelli in the interim.
