Listen to sound file here: Up for sale is this really nicely-done 1931 Gibson TB-1 banjo conversion to 5-string flathead. This banjo is truly exceptional! Original TB-1 banjo with very authentic-looking RB-1 five-string neck by Ron Coleman.Rare original pre-war 4-lug pot, like the Mastertones!The neck is very finely made and plays beautifully. All hardware original with the exception of the arm rest (looks to be a 1950s version) and possibly the tension hoop, and the addition of a very strong and powerful 20-hole flathead ring of unknown origin--it looks and sounds just like a pre-war Gibson flathead tone ring: pre-war specs, long-skirt, with old-style nickel plating and machine marks similar to my pre-war flathead ring (see pics). The tone ring weighs a little over 3 pounds and rings like a bell. The tailpiece is a pre-war Grover "Presto". The resonator has been refinished on the outside to the exact same shade and color as the original finish, and the neck is a perfect match as well.This is one of the most powerful banjos I've ever played, and has unbelievable tone all up and down the neck. A real pleasure to play.The only negative to this banjo is that there is a section of the flange broken out. It doesn't effect strength or functionality, and it is at least in a pretty unnoticeable location--back by the tailpiece, where a strap would also typically cover it up.Returns not accepted unless buyer finds that item is not as I described it in my listing.
